STRAND A, SESSION 2: RESEARCH BASED PRACTICES IN SPELLING AND HANDWRITING
|
| Abstract: |
Poor spelling and illegible handwriting are the most visible and (to the public) alarming attributes of students with writing disabilities. Nevertheless, in general education there has been a marked tendency to regard spelling and handwriting as surface skills and to allocate little time for their careful instruction. Evidence-based approaches to these key areas are described and a variety of resources for concerned teachers are presented. (13584)

STRAND A, SESSION 3: SENTENCE COMBINING: A RESEARCH-BASED METHOD TO IMPROVE SENTENCE CONSTRUCTION SKILLS
|
| Abstract: |

STRAND A, SESSION 4: THE ROLE OF SELF-REGULATED STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT IN DEVELOPING MOTIVATED, EFFECTIVE WRITERS
|
| Abstract: |
Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) meaningfully improves what and how children write, and their attitudes about writing. SRSD instruction in writing is illustrated from elementary to high school. Selected genre strategies will be presented, including one strategy for a state writing competency test. Resources for further support in implementing SRSD will be shared. (13586)
