Abstract: Poor spelling and illegible handwriting are the most visible and (to the public) alarming attributes of students with writing disabilities. Nevertheless, in general education there has been a marked tendency to regard spelling and handwriting as surface skills and to allocate little time for their careful instruction. Evidence-based approaches to these key areas are described and a variety of resources for concerned teachers are presented.  (13584)
