Abstract: Presenters provide data on participation rates on AA-AAS and AA-MAS assessments; the average percentage of students achieving “proficiency” on these assessments, methods for facilitating inclusion and alignment of content standards, instruction, and assessment; and the need for more research so that some important “unknowns” about these assessments can become “knowns.” (13587)

Abstract: This session addresses a number of empirical and statistical arguments necessary in supporting claims of proficiency for students with significant disabilities on state alternate assessments. Using a technical report presented for peer review, the presenters from the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development provide a model for attendees.  (13589)

Session: STRAND H, SESSION 4: ALTERNATE ASSESSMENTS’ CONTRIBUTIONS TO BETTER CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AND TESTING
Abstract: The presenters have designed an alternate assessment, the 1% and 2%, for several states. This session will extract practices enacted to build these alternate assessments and to train teachers to conduct them that have direct implications for better instruction and teacher made tests. The focus will be on opportunity to learn/alignment with standards, scoring rubrics that can be used to communicate and interpret results, objective evidence, and accessible materials and test items.  (13590)
