Session: STRAND F, SESSION 1: FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL PERSPECTIVES ON DATA-DRIVEN EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESSFUL RTI IMPLEMENTATION
Abstract: This first session will kick-off the strand by contributing to a much needed national dialogue on data-driven expectations for RTI success. Presenters will discuss their expectations for determining when RTI has been successfully implemented and when RTI implementation has not met expectations for success. Perspectives on RTI success at the federal, state, and local levels will be contrasted.  (13602)

Abstract: The second session will discuss how the National Center on RTI has established a Technical Review Committee process to support educators and families in selecting RTI tools and practices that meet high standards. Research on RTI as multi-tied prevention system will be critiqued to provide a context for the TRC process.  (13603)

Session: STRAND F, SESSION 3: STATE AND LOCAL EXPERIENCES IN IDENTIFYING, IMPLEMENTING, AND SUSTAINING EVIDENCE-BASED RTI
Abstract: The third session describes and contrasts how RTI is being scaled-up in states and local districts across the country. The first presenter will draw a national picture of RTI implementation in 50 states. State officials from two states at different stages of RTI implementation, will describe their states’ RTI experiences. Learn about selecting RTI frameworks that are evidence-based and meet stakeholder needs, providing rigorous RTI training statewide, supporting local RTI implementation with fidelity, and evaluating RTI initiatives.  (13604)

Session: STRAND F, SESSION 4: PROMISING APPROACHES TO USING RTI IN RESPONSE TO MINORITY STUDENT DISPROPORTIONALITY
Abstract: This session highlights progress, challenges, and lessons learned in states and districts that are using RTI as a response to over- and underidentification of minority students for special education and as a strategy to improve achievement among culturally and linguistically diverse students. Promising approaches for providing culturally responsive, evidence-based interventions across multiple tiers of need will be described and key components of RTI, including student screening and progress monitoring will be reviewed in the context of students of color.  (13605)
